Reading Aloud as a Writer

Maru Mushtrieva (Brussels/Berlin)

Maru’s workshop focuses on the interplay between reading, reading aloud and writing in the artistic practice. The practice of reading aloud or reading to is an essential part for peer exchange and dissemination of ideas in the artistic and writing scenes since the beginning of times.

Following a series of somatic and writing scores, we write and exchange our readings as a group. Readers become writers, and writers become readers. The score invites participants to reflect on one another’s readings and let their writing be contaminated by what they hear. Reading text aloud not only opens a different dimension for accessibility (auditory instead of visual) but also helps the author understand better the tone of the text and its rhythmical structures.
